Heathwood Lower School

Heathwood Lower School

Our Curriculum

The school aims to provide an education which is broad and balanced. The school’s curriculum is based on a creative curricular topic approach to learning.  Each class has a new topic every term or half term, and parents are informed of the topics that the children will cover. Full coverage of the National Curriculum is achieved in a two year cycle for both Key Stages.

The Reception Class follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum and work towards the Early Le arning Goals. The curriculum for the Key Stage 1 and 2 children is shaped by the requirements of the National Curriculum.  English, Mathematics, and Science are the core subjects. Design and Technology, Geography, History, Art and Design, Music and Physical Education are the foundation subjects. The curriculum also includes ICT, Religious Education, Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education. Children start learning French in Year 3. All children are taught Religious Education in accordance with the Bedfordshire Agreed Syllabus.

School policies, schemes of work and other relevant documents may be viewed by arrangement with the Headteacher.
