Class 2 Autumn Term 2 Newsletter

 Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome to Class 2!  We had an amazing start to the school year with our first topic ‘On the Move!’ and the children were a credit to the school when we went on our class trip to the Stoke Bruerne Canal Museum. Thank you for the junk modelling materials that you sent into school, the children’s vehicles were great fun to make and they looked fantastic!

Mrs Rossiter will be our Teaching Assistant, and we will regularly have the support of Mrs Houghton in the mornings. Mrs Dicocco will teach every Monday afternoon, while I have my PPA time.

In class we aim to listen to your child read as often as possible. We encourage you to support your child’s reading by spending time listening to them read, reading to them, talking about what you have just read and, most importantly, enjoying reading! We will change the children’s reading books every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. As well as their individual reading, I will hear all children read in our Guided Reading sessions. Please ensure that all reading is logged in your child’s diary (not just books from the school’s reading scheme) so that we can reward house points to children.

Maths Games will be sent out every other week on a Tuesday and must be returned in time for re-allocating to another child within two weeks. The children will be responsible for ensuring that all contents are correct. We hope that you will enjoy playing the games with your child! On the alternate Tuesday there will be homework uploaded onto Education City for children to access. We will also be sending out banks of spellings every Monday for the children to practice ready for a weekly quiz. All details regarding homework will be posted onto the learning platform.

The Learning Platform

Your child continues to have access to the Learning Platform. Please encourage your child to access the learning platform, a link to the page is on the school website. I will upload games and activities onto the Year 2 page to support your child across the curriculum. If you experience problems accessing this, please come and speak with one of us.

This Half Term’s Topic

Our new topic is ‘Why am I famous?’ where we will be thinking about what makes people famous and the qualities of famous people. We will focus on finding out about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole, Thomas Edison, Neil Armstrong and Tim Peake!

We are planning to have a dress up day on Thursday 30th November 2017, further details to be released in a letter for parents.

PE lessons will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school at all times (black shorts, purple t-shirt and plimsolls/trainers). I would also encourage you to ensure that when the weather turns colder the children should have black tracksuit bottoms, a black fleece/jumper and trainers within their PE bag.

School Trips

We are planning on going on the following trips this year (approximate cost)

16th October 2017 – Stoke Bruerne Canal Museum and Boat Trip (£13)

6th March 2018 – Roald Dahl Museum (£20)

It looks to be a very busy and exciting year! If you have any concerns about your son/daughter or any questions/queries, then please feel free to call into class after school to speak to me.

Many thanks,

Miss O’Reilly
