Class 2 Spring Term 1 Newsletter

January 2018

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to Class 2! I hope you all enjoyed a very Merry Christmas and had lots of time to relax and have fun with family and friends. I am excited to get stuck into two new topics with lots of great learning and a class trip in March.

Staffing will remain the same during the Spring Term. Mrs Rossiter will be our Teaching Assistant, Mrs Houghton will support two mornings and Mrs Dicocco will teach every Monday afternoon.

In class we aim to listen to your child read as often as possible. We encourage you to support your child’s reading by spending time listening to them read, reading to them, talking about what you have just read and, most importantly, enjoying reading! We will change the children’s reading books every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. As well as their individual reading, I will hear all children read in our Guided Reading sessions. Please ensure that all reading is logged in your child’s diary (not just books from the school’s reading scheme) so that we can reward house points to children.

Maths Games will be sent out every other week on a Tuesday and must be returned in time for re-allocating to another child within two weeks. The children will be responsible for ensuring that all contents are correct. We hope that you will enjoy playing the games with your child! On the alternate week we will send home a bank of spellings words. It will be clear in your child’s diary when Maths Games need to be returned and when we are checking their spellings.

The Learning Platform

Your child continues to have access to the Learning Platform. Please encourage your child to access the learning platform, a link to the page is on the school website. I will upload games and activities onto the Year 2 page to support your child across the curriculum. If you experience problems accessing this, please come and speak with one of us.

This Half Term’s Topic

Our first topic of the Spring Term is ‘It’s Wild Down Under’ where we will be finding out all about Australia.

PE lessons will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school at all times (black shorts, purple t-shirt and plimsolls/trainers). I would also encourage you to ensure that when the weather turns colder the children should have black tracksuit bottoms, a black fleece/jumper and trainers within their PE bag.

School Trips

We are planning on going on the following trips this year (approximate cost)

16th October 2017 – Stoke Bruerne Canal Museum and Boat Trip (£13)

6th March 2018 – Roald Dahl Museum (£20)

If you have any concerns about your son/daughter or any questions/queries then please feel free to call into class after school to speak to me.

Many thanks,

Miss O’Reilly
