Class 3 Spring Term Newsletter

 January 2018

Dear Parents,

The children have settled in well since the holidays and I am very pleased with the work they are producing.  Congratulations to all the pupils who have so far been rewarded with either: Star Writer, Amazing Mathematician, Values Stars or Merits.  Please keep up the excellent work throughout this term, you deserve your rewards.  During this term our Topic will be based around the following:

Spring Term 1: Invaders & Settlers: Britain’s invasion and settlement by Anglo-Saxons and Scots: kingdoms, place names and village life.

Spring Term 2: Rise of the Robots: Work based around the book: Ironman by Ted Hughes

How you can help at home

Before the winter break we have listened to all the children read and the majority of children have managed to be moved up to the next reading level, which is a fantastic achievement for all pupils.  Please can I ask you to continue to read with your child as frequently as possible during the week, because we have seen a huge improvement in the pupils reading, with the children who read at home on a regular basis.  The children will be rewarded in school for their hard work.  If the children are reading a book, which they are not enjoying please ask them to change it.  If they are reading different materials at home and not just their school book then this is also classed as reading, so please record it.

The children will be heard during our weekly Guided Reading sessions, where we will carry on studying a range of different text types to help improve comprehension and inferential skills.

Homework will be set to encourage the pupils to develop their independent skills and these will be related to our topic of the term or improving their numeracy skills.  This will now be set on a regular basis, so please encourage your child to complete it by the deadline provided.

Anglo-Saxon Project

For your homework over the next three weeks I would like you to find out more about the Anglo-Saxons. I would like you to present for me what it is that you think you know about the Anglo-Saxons. I would like you to do some research about that period of time in History, perhaps using library books or the internet. You can focus on a particular theme that interests you.

You can present this however you would like; I look forward to sharing ideas with you and getting stuck into our final topic of the year!

PE lessons will take place on Tuesday mornings and Wednesday afternoons with the support of our sports coach Mr Dunstan, where we will be focusing on Dance and Adventure/Obstacle.  Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school at all times (black shorts, purple t-shirt and plimsolls/trainers).

Trips & Visits

Please remember that the Residential trip payment is now due.

Thank you all for your very kind presents at the end of last term.  The class three team have enjoyed opening them all and we have been amazed by your generosity and kind words.

Thank you
