Class 3 Autumn Newsletter

Dear Parents

Welcome to Class 3.  We hope your son/daughter is pleased to be back at school and looking forward to the year ahead to start our topic of “Light up the World”.  The theme will be developing and improving the children’s Science and Geography knowledge.   The class will be supported this year by Mrs Stanford and Mrs Houghton.  Whilst I have my planning time the class will be taught by Mrs Dicocco on Thursday afternoons.

How you can help at home?

Reading

In class we aim to listen to your child read as often as possible!  We ask that you spend time listening to your child read, reading to them and talking about what you have read on a daily basis.  Please encourage your child to enjoy reading and to read books of their own choosing, as well as those in our reading scheme.  All the children who we can see have been making the effort to read, will receive house points for reading (3 times per week = 10HP, more than 3 times = 20HP).  The children will be heard during our weekly Guided Reading sessions, where we will carry on studying a range of different text types to help improve comprehension and inferential skills.

Times Tables

In class we work on our times tables and number bonds on a daily basis, so please could you please reinforce these at home. Your child can use Flurrish at home as a visitor.

 Homework

Homework will be set to encourage the pupils to develop their independent skills and these will be related to our topic of the term or improving their numeracy skills.

Targets

I will set new individualised targets for children in numeracy, literacy and reading this term.  These will be shared and explained to the children.  If you have any queries about your child’s targets or would like further information on how you can help them at home, please call in and discuss this with me or a member of the Year 3 team.

PE

PE lessons will take place on Friday afternoons and Wednesday afternoons with the support of our sports coach Mr Dunstan, where we will be focusing on balls skills.  Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school at all times (black shorts, purple t-shirt and plimsolls/trainers).

 Trips & Visits

We are looking at different ways to enrich the curriculum through our educational visits.  Once the dates of these visits have been finalised I will let you know accordingly.  After the success of Heathwood’s first residential visit to Caldecote, we have already booked for June 2019.

If you have any queries or concerns about your child or have any questions please do not hesitate to call in and speak to us.

Thank you

Mr Waterhouse, Mrs Stanford & Mrs Houghton
