Class 3 Spring Newsletter

           January 2019

Dear Parents,

The children have developed well during the Autumn term and we are now seeing some excellent progress.  Congratulations to all the pupils who have so far been rewarded with either: Star Writer, Amazing Mathematician, Values Stars or Merits.  Please keep up the excellent work throughout this term, you deserve your rewards.  During this term our Topic will be based around the following:

Spring Term 1: Ancient Egyptians Invaders & Settlers

Spring Term 2: Out Living Rainforests

How you can help at home - Reading

During the beginning of this term we will listen to the children read and make a decision on whether they can move up to the next level, which would be a fantastic achievement for all pupils.  Please can I ask you to continue to read with your child as frequently as possible during the week, because we have seen a huge improvement in the pupils reading, with the children who read at home on a regular basis.  The children will be rewarded in school for their hard work and can earn housepoints for their reading, so please fill in and sign their diaries.  If the children are reading a book, which they are not enjoying please ask them to change it.  If they are reading different materials at home and not just their school book then this is also classed as reading, so please record it.

The children will be heard during our weekly Guided Reading sessions, where we will carry on studying a range of different text types to help improve comprehension and inferential skills.

Homework

Homework will be set to encourage the pupils to develop their independent skills and these will be related to our topic of the term or improving their numeracy skills.  This will now be set on a regular basis, so please encourage your child to complete it by the deadline provided.

PE

PE lessons will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons with the support of our sports coach Mr Dunstan, where we will be focusing on Gymnastics and Adventure/Obstacle.  Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school at all times (black shorts, purple t-shirt and plimsolls/trainers, tracksuit/sweatshirt – no hoddies).
